One of the meanest cichlids in the trade, these fish are quite capable of defending themselves from fish twice their size. They are extremely hardy and forgiving for the beginner aquarist and quite easy to breed. pH should be kept between 6.0-8.0 with no abrupt changes. Temperatures should be between 68-80°F. They are very territorial but make great parents for their fry. Give them plenty of room as they grow (20 gallons per fish) and only keep with other convicts or other fish that will defend themselves. Diet should be full spectrum. |
