Often confused and maligned with its cousin the Red Belly Piranha, the Pacu is a demanding fish to keep in home aquaria. Filtration and tank size are top priorities; they need plenty of space to grow and very clean water to do it. Temperature between 75-80°F and pH should be at 6.5 - 7.5. It is suggested to use a peat based black water extract and to do regular water changes. The Pacu is an omnivore and should be offered a variety of plant and meat choices. They are skittish fish and have been known to bash their heads into the glass walls of their tank. |
